Habib University test duration, section by section

The Accuplacer sections are adaptive and untimed in the strict sense, but Habib runs them under a controlled time window per section. Practical rule of thumb: budget around 20 to 30 minutes per Accuplacer section, and the full essay window for the essay.

• Arithmetic: 20 questions, roughly 20 minutes.
• Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra & Statistics: 20 questions, roughly 25 minutes.
• Advanced Algebra & Functions (DSSE only): 20 questions, roughly 30 minutes.
• Reading: around 20 questions, roughly 30 minutes.
• Writing: around 25 questions, roughly 30 minutes.
• Essay: one prompt, approximately 60 minutes.

AHSS applicants can expect the full test to run around three hours, including the essay. DSSE applicants sit an additional 30-minute math section, so plan for roughly three and a half hours end to end. Arrive early, allow time for check-in, and treat the whole morning or afternoon as the test window.

Don't spend more than 90 seconds on the first three questions of any section, the adaptive engine punishes early hesitation. On Reading, read passages in full before touching questions, skimming costs more time on re-reads than it saves. On the essay, spend the first five minutes planning, not writing.
