How to prepare

How to prepare for the Habib University test

Preparation for the Habib test is not about volume, it's about targeting. Applicants who do the most practice rarely score the highest, applicants who diagnose first and drill their weakest section do. Below is the plan that actually moves scores.

Week one, take a diagnostic mock

Sit one full-length mock in the first week, before you touch any study material. Don't prepare for it. The point is to establish an honest score floor and identify the bottleneck section, which is almost always different from what you assumed.

Weeks two and three, kill the bottleneck

Spend 70% of your remaining time on your weakest section. Alternate short practice sets with careful review, review is where the learning happens, not the practice itself. If you're a DSSE applicant and AAF is your bottleneck, this is where you either clear the cutoff or don't.

Week four, timing, essay, interview

Take two more full-length mocks, one week apart. Spend the rest of the week on the essay and interview, both are under-weighted in most prep plans and both are recoverable in a week if you actually practise them under timed conditions.

What to avoid

  • Undirected practice, doing 500 problems without knowing why or what to fix.
  • Skipping the essay because 'you can write'.
  • Studying the section you're already strong in because it feels productive.
  • Cramming the day before, sleep is worth more marks than one more mock.
